Frequently asked questions
We would like to think that we offer an unequalled selection of good quality Regularity Rallies, perfect for any skill level, with a great social atmosphere to top it all off. We also consider them good value for money events, and we genuinely do try to do everything we can to ensure you have a great event with us. Even if you are new to the sport, been out of it for a while, or want to try something a bit more relaxed whilst keeping that challenge for first position, you will have a great weekend.
Scenic Rally Tours have secured two specialist insurance partners who can provide cover for French regularity rallies under an annual motor insurance policy.
Not for Rallies organised by us in France. You will need to bring your driving licence (for both crew members if they will be sharing the driving), MOT Certificate (if required) and Insurance details.
No, our tours are designed for the 'driving enthusiast' so you can bring any marque along, however due to the media in which we advertise the majority of cars that book with us are Classic, Modern Classic and Sports Cars. The car must be road worthy, insured and hold an MOT where appropriate. The Driver is responsible for ensuring these are the case.
What This Means for You
If you hold an annual policy with one of these two providers (subject to their terms and conditions):
• Our Regularity Rallies are pre-approved
• No need to call your insurer for one-off permission
• No additional event-specific policy required
• No last-minute uncertainty about cover
In short — if you’re insured annually with one of these providers and meet their policy criteria, you’re covered to take part in our Regularity Rallies. Each insurer has its own eligibility criteria and policy wording. It is essential that you review your insurer’s terms and conditions carefully.
We know insurance clarity has always been one of the biggest questions around Scenic Rally Tours events. This new arrangement removes uncertainty and simplifies the process for many participants. It’s a major step in making our 2026 events smoother, more accessible, and easier to prepare for.
Dave Youngs, of Peter James Insurance, says:
“The team at Peter James Insurance live and breathe the historic vehicle world, just like you do. That’s important, because when you call looking for insurance cover to protect your cherished classics, they really do understand how much it means to you and the huge amount of time, money, and effort you may have invested in it. Moreover, they have worked closely with the team at Scenic Rally Tours to design unique insurance features that include insurance cover for many of the events that you enjoy taking part in. All Peter James classic policies include free and simple agreed value cover as well as UK and EU breakdown cover.”
Darren Ansell, of Classic Line Insurance, says:
“Classic Line Insurance has been arranging cover on classic and cherished vehicles for over 40 years. We are privately and independently owned and have access to numerous insurance providers that can cover your car competitively to enjoy the events that Scenic Tours arrange. Our policies have legal assistance and EU roadside assistance included as standard and there is the option to have agreed valuation cover included to give you that extra peace of mind.”
To compete on the Rallies, it is recommended that you have some form of timing devise (a stopwatch as a minimum) and some form of accurate trip meter in either miles or Kilometres. The route instructions will give details of junctions and landmarks to the nearest 1/100th of a mile or kilometre. GPS apps are allowed as are fitted trip meters. Please email us with specific questions.
Our Standard Regulations and event specific Additional Supplementary Regulations available on the website will detail what you will need to have in the car in addition to any requirements of the country we are visiting. Such specific equipment will include a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, spill mat and warning triangle.
Unless otherwise stated, our deposit requirement is between £100 - £200 per person, or 20% deposit per person for any potential weeklong rallies.
Unless otherwise stated your balance is payable 10 weeks prior to departure.
Our two-day Rallies will involve Scrutineering and a Briefing on the Friday evening. Saturday morning will start around 8.30am with the first car departing. The first car will return to the Hotel around 5pm. There will normally be four regularity sections in the day of around 30 miles each lasting around an hour. There will be three stops to stretch your legs and seek out refreshments. The format is the same for the second day.
You will be pleased to know we still take the classic approach with marshalling, physical people in physical locations. On each Regularity section we will have at least three Marshal crews at undisclosed distances to check that you are on the right time, penalties apply for every second you are late or early against your due time. You will need to stop at these points, and the Marshall will sign your card and record your arrival time on it.
Due to permit requirements we can only accommodate 49 cars on each event. In some cases, hotel availability may reduce this further. We set a minimum number of cars required to run an event but hope not to have to cancel a Rally.
On our two day Rallies you can expect around 100-125 miles of Regularity Rallying with minimal transport sections between them.
Most definitely not. Average speeds to be driven are with the legal speed limits and within the limit that it is safe to drive the roads. The challenge is to drive at the detailed speed.
The organisers will define the Start list and you will be allocated a start time, and this will dictate the time you restart after every break. Penalties apply for missing your due start time.
Whilst these instances are rare, in the nicest possible way, if it does happen to you, it is just bad luck. No adjustments will be made to your time. That’s just a consequence of using open public roads.
The package includes hotel accommodation, breakfast and a prize giving dinner. The dinner will be a good quality 3 course meal, usually with a bit of wine to kick off the evening, with bar service running throughout. You will need to make your own arrangements for the other evenings; however, the locations we chose do allow for multiple options each night. During the day we will stop in towns and at supermarkets where fuel, toilets and refreshments may be available for purchase locally. It should be said the quality of French public toilets can be questionable and that tea/ coffee may not be available at all stops. In rare instances, toilets we have used before may be out of service when the rally takes place. It is advisable to bring some snacks & drinks just in case you are shorter on time, than you planned. When the Final Instructions are issued, we will provide details of the facilities available at the stops, based on the last RECCE.
We would only cancel the tour as a last resort.
Any urgent communications regarding the rally and possible route changes will be made via a Bulletin on the app Sportity and will also be posted on a WhatsApp group that will be created for the event by the organisers. Where possible the updates will be referred to at the Start of each section by the Marshals.
As many of our participants take part in all events, for each year, we are running a Championship for Drivers and Navigators. All three events in that year count towards the Championship. Separate Regulations are available for the Championship.
The overall winners will get awards and also class winners will get awards. Depending on the number of entrants in each class will dictate if second and third places in each class receive awards. Standard Regulations and Additional Supplementary Regulations detail this.

Our terms and conditions list clearly what happens if you have to cancel your booking with us - see our terms & conditions. It is essential that when booking a holiday or short break that you have adequate travel insurance cover to protect you in the case of cancellation.
Each team does need to have their own individual booking. However, ensuring that you all have the same travel arrangements is easy. We recommend calling Scenic Car Tours first on 01732 879153, to discuss. Failing that, you can all book via the website first to secure your place, then contact Scenic Car Tours afterwards to discuss travel arrangements.
